Scaling is a common enameling defect, which is caused by contamination with materials with a higher melting temperature than enamel.

Scaling is a common enameling defect, which is caused by contamination with materials with a higher melting temperature than enamel.

Possible Causes

Typical sources of scaling are in random order :

  • corrosion of alloys
  • quartz
  • overfired substrates.
