The European Commission officially decided to classify titanium dioxide in its powder form as a substance that is “suspected of causing cancer in humans.”
TiO2, a white inorganic substance, is commonly used in paints, vitreous enamels, construction materials and other industrial and consumer goods.
Many in the coatings industry, including the American Coatings Association, oppose the measure.
